Sport Management Students Make Positive Impact

Nichols College Sport Management has been on an exciting fast track this semester.

The 3rd annual Atlantic Regional Pickleball Tournament was hosted Oct. 26-29 in Hartford, Conn., by Professor Tim Liptrap, Sport Management alum Patrick Fischer, and 24 Nichols students. Over 475 people attended; 25 students experienced a professional day with Professor Alice Mullen at Boston College (BC) with a tour of campus, assisting with their Red Bandanna event (in honor of Welles Crowther, BC ’99) and were the “lucky charms” by attending the BC versus Florida State football game. The game resulted in a huge 35-3 victory for the Eagles.

On Nov. 9, Professor Charlie Robert, Professor Mullen, and the Nichols Sport Management Club’s Executive Board hosted the 2nd annual “Millennials in Sport” event inviting seven presenters (four of whom were Nichols alumni) and over 120 attendees.

The Boys & Girls Club practicum students with Professor Robert have developed a traveling basketball league for B&G Clubs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, which kicked off this month. Nineteen Nichols College interns have been diligently making an impact in the industry, in organizations such as the Worcester Railers and Boston College Athletics.

All of this has been happening while interviewing for new faculty members!

The semester concluded with Sport Seminar seniors presenting their semester of research on Dec. 5.
